Vijay Janapa Reddi is the Gordon McKay Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Harvard University. His research spans computer architecture, runtime systems, edge computing, and machine-learning systems, with a longstanding focus on co-design across hardware, software, systems, and machine learning. Much of that work examines the interfaces among these layers, where a hardware decision changes the software and runtime choices available, and those choices change the system-level performance and efficiency tradeoffs.

He has also worked to make machine-learning performance claims measurable and reproducible. As a founding board member of MLCommons, he helped build the MLPerf benchmark program spanning data-center systems and embedded machine learning.

That perspective shapes Architecture 2.0. The book asks when AI assistance improves a computer system, how that improvement should be measured and checked, and what the evidence allows an architect to decide.
